Class C Motorhomes Compared to Other RV Classes
From Pedata RV Center
Class C motorhomes are among the more affordable recreational vehicle models on the market today. Class C motorhomes are often called mini motorhomes and are rarely ever categorized as luxury coaches. With all the models to choose from, class C motorhomes can be a realistic choice for those with a smaller budget.
Class A motor coaches on the other hand are often called luxury liners, highline bus style RV’s, and are otherwise known as the rock stars of the RV world. Class A motor coaches are much larger than class C rv. Class A motorhomes have a completely different type of frame than class c motor coache. Class C RVs are sort of a scaled down version of the class A. You still have all the conveniences of a class a like a kitchen and bathroom, just in a class c rv its on a smaller scale.
You could easily live in a class A luxury coach and most full timers do in fact live full time in class A RV’s. The Class C would be a tighter fit, but it is possible to live full time. The Class A coaches are spacious and have everything you need to be able to live comfortably and be fully self contained (not all Class A’s come with everything, but they can be easily upgraded to include anything that their owners feel is missing). The class A is easy to live in because it is the largest and most luxurious motorhome style. Class A’s are bus style vehicles allowing plenty of interior space and usually offering additional under or side storage.
Class B RV’s are also known as van conversions. These are smaller than a Class C RV and are an actual converted van. Van conversions usually have pop up ceilings or have had the ceiling extended to allow for adequate standing room. Some van conversions come with slide outs to add inner space. Van conversions are very small and are intended for very short trips with one or possibly two people. It would be very difficult to live full time in a Class B van conversion recreational vehicle.
There are also of course travel trailers and fifth wheel trailers. Travel trailers are designed to be towed behind a ca, truck or van and are pretty nice for weekend trips or short family vacations. Fifth wheel trailers are made to be towed with a truck. The truck must be outfitted with a special tow hitch that is stationed inside the truck bed. Fifth wheel trailers are two level units with the second level over the truck bed area.
Class C motor coaches are built on top of an automotive van frame, but they are different from van conversions because the Class C RV has a cab section attached making it bigger than the average van conversion. A Class C is meant to be everything that a class A luxury bus style coach is. The Class C RV is just smaller and less expensive. They do a pretty good job simulating the highline class A luxury RV.
Class C RV’s look much like a van from the front view except they have a sleeping area or dinette section that hangs over the cock pit. The back and sides of the Class C RV look like a box on wheels. Class C motor coaches are considerable less expensive than the class A’s. You can purchase a nice brand new Cclass C RV for $40,000.00 to $80,000.00.
Some people prefer the Class C because it is usually much less expensive than the class A models, they are easier to drive because they are smaller, better on gas mileage also thanks to their lighter weight, and you can usually fit them in a regular parking spot.
