Every year, drivers of used travel trailers, diesel motorhomes and fifth wheel towables descend on RV parks across the U.S. and Canada for any number of rallies bringing drivers together. While most of these events are good times for friends and family, only one draws Good Samaritan drivers to Zanesville, Ohio - the Summer Samboree. Unaffiliated with the warehouse chain, the Samboree was founded in 1966 when a driver responding to a call for help from a disabled camper began a rallying cry among serious and recreational RVers. That event spawned the million-member Good Sam Club, and the Samboree was the inevitable after effect. Dave Spragg, the director of the Ohio chapter of the Good Sam Club, claims that the event is an excellent way to meet and greet local RVers while helping out the local economy. The Zanesville Times Recorder estimates that the event may bring as much as $60,000 into the community in only 6 days. While the event features food, entertainment and fun for the whole family, for many drivers it is about connecting with like-minded individuals in a laid back and relaxing atmosphere. "It's the friendships," Loraine Bloye, an RVer present at the event, told the news provider. "A lot of them we only see three times a year. It's a good group of people, and it's fun."
