With the summer upon us, millions of Americans will be piling into class A motorhomes, travel trailers and used caravans to jaunt cross country for a great North American adventure. For many adventurers, this could be their first time taking to the road aboard an RV, and for those individuals there are a few things that they may want to consider before climbing behind the wheel. While an RV can provide all of the comforts of home while on the road, that should not suggest that a cross country venture is a simple and easy undertaking. Indeed, drivers new and old would be wise to establish a detailed itinerary for their travels prior to departure. Thom Conroy of Helium.com suggests that the agenda should include everything from time for bathroom breaks and locations where they will stop for the night to the potential costs incurred on the journey and navigational aids. "This is not by any means to imply that the itinerary is carved in stone and is unchangeable," writes Conroy, "but it gives an outstanding idea of time constraints and driving time for beginners." Those drivers who have access to smart phones may also want to note any RV repair shops that may be near their stopping points, in the event of a breakdown or other unforeseen mishap.
