 RVs are attracting younger buyers. In fact, the fastest growing group of motorhome owners are young people between the ages of 18 and 34. One of the documented deciding factors behind the industry growth is the various usages for RVs today. Many younger owners use the vehicles for tailgating, camping and road trips.
A recent analysis from the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) showed that potential fuel cost increases would need to more than double over current levels to make RVing more expensive for a family of four than other types of travel and lodging. Therefore, road trips and carpooling adventures aren't impacting finances too heavily.
In part, the growth of the RV industry could also be from the new vehicles being introduced to the market. Manufacturers are developing lightweight, fuel-efficient and eco-friendly RVs that appeal to a wider audience - which have helped increase the number of RVs on the road today.
In fact, RV parks and campgrounds across the country reported a 5 percent increase in reservations between 2009 and 2010, according to RVIA.
