Motorhomes offer many of the same amenities of a stationary home, but allow occupants to travel to wherever they choose. An ideal situation for those individuals who are not tied down to any responsibilities in one place.
With remote work becoming more of a possibility in many careers, the advantages of experiencing the typically-overlooked landscapes are appealing to many families. The downside, however, is that most RVs average only 7 to 10 miles per gallon. That forces many motorhome owners to find ways to save money on fuel. Here are a few tips to help:
• Follow the road signs. The faster you go and the longer you retain that speed, the more gas you burn
• Idling the engine wastes fuel, so if you're at a rest stop, turn it off
• Keep the engine in top shape. A poorly cared for motor can burn more gas by up to 20 percent
• Use a recommended grade of motor oil for your RV
• Utilize cruise control, as it keeps a steady rate of speed and limits over-driving
• Keep an eye on tire pressure and adjust it according to the recommended levels of your RV
• Reduce the weight inside the RV. A heavy vehicle takes more energy to move, so don't bring any item you truly don't need
There are several ways to improve fuel efficiency in an RV. Remember that taking good care of any vehicle will greatly improve its gas mileage down the road.
