With all of the economic troubles that have gripped the country over the past few years, many critics have claimed that the recreational vehicle industry may be slowly dying. Yet despite these grim predictions, campgrounds across the U.S. and Canada are seeing record numbers of class A motorhomes rolling into their lots, and they are far from the only ones. The Redding Record Searchlight is reporting that private campgrounds and RV dealers have actually seen expanded business over the past several months, proving that the business is alive and well. This success reflects more than a positive trend, according to John Croce, a manager of a camp ground company that owns nine properties in California. To him, it represents a whole new generation of RV drivers. "In the past, people would get into their RV and tour the United States. That has stopped," Croce tells the news provider. "What people are doing is traveling much shorter distances but staying longer." "Our sales are up dramatically," he added. Analysts attribute the growth to the relatively low cost of RV travel when compared to that of "fly-drive-hotel" vacations, with Bloomberg Business Week reporting that an RV camping vacation could run nearly 70 percent cheaper than their more traditional counterparts.
