The economic downturn has left many Americans pinching pennies, but it has not stopped them from indulging in leisurely activities. In an effort to cut back on vacation expenses, more families are investing in recreational vehicles, according to the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel.
The Scenic Travelers RV Centers in Slinger and Baraboo, Wisconsin, have seen a 25 percent increase in sales. Many individuals who have been keeping a close eye on their wallets are also choosing to invest in motorhomes through financing options. The market for used motorhomes is seeing an increase in business as well.
"Although unemployment remains stubbornly high and housing may remain depressed for years, many consumers maintain a brighter outlook now," industry analyst Craig Kennison told the news source. "This trend is especially true for wealthier consumers with a college education and a 401(k)."
Many leisure product companies are located in Wisconsin, including Harley-Davidson Incorporated and Mercury Marine Incorporated. The manufacturers have helped drive tourism and motorhome enthusiasts to the region.
Industry analysts believe that the surge in recreational vehicle sales is due to Americans' desire to continue to travel at a reasonable cost.
