With the economy on the road to recovery after the worst economic recession since the Great Depression, consumers are returning to the marketplace at a steady rate. One group benefitting from the rebounding economy is recreational vehicle dealers, as according to recent study, the sale of new and used motor homes is on the rise. In an article published by the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association, Dr. Richard Curtain projected that the industry will grow nearly 40 percent over 2009, shipping more than 249,700 units over the course of the year. The report highlights a number of reasons for the expected growth, in particular the industry's adoption of lighter materials and more fuel-efficient engines, which can be a real draw for younger drivers. While this projection is optimistic, Curtain warns that the recovery may be slow, as consumer confidence has yet to return to pre-recession levels. Despite this setback, sales have been up in a number of markets and several product classes have been faring well in recent months. Leading the upward sales trend has been towables and lightweight trailers, with Class A motor homes and Fifth Wheel Campers also seeing a boost.
