RVing is a popular activity that compels millions of drivers across the U.S. and Canada to take to the highway aboard fifth-wheel travel trailers and toy haulers every year. Yet some people are not as accepting of these enormous vehicles, going so far as to propose legislation that could prevent motorhome enthusiasts from engaging in their favorite activity. One resort in Northern Pennsylvania has had enough, directly challenging local restrictions that could keep upwards of 600 drivers from hitting the road. Lake Adventure, a privately owned campground located in Dingman Township, is challenging a local restriction that recently changed the legal description of recreational vehicles allowed in the area to exclude vehicles larger than 300-square feet. Unfortunately, more than half of the 1,200 RVers renting spots at the facility don't fit into that category - prompting the property's owners to appeal the restriction and seek a variance for larger RVs. The county is concerned that these larger vehicles could end up placing a strain on the area's water and sewer system, a belief that Lake Adventure dismisses as ridiculous. The campground even hired an engineering firm to study whether larger RVs produce more sewage, only to find no significant difference.
