The summer may be wrapping up, but that doesn't mean RVers are packing in their travel plans. If those plans include a trip through the southeastern portion of Texas, than these travelers may be in luck, as the city of Galveston is currently planning a new 44-slip RV park at Seawolf Park. Seawolf Park is a popular tourist attraction in the area thanks to its numerous naval exhibits and strong fishing opportunities. Community planners are hoping to utilize four unused acres of the grounds to create a massive 250-space RV park big enough to house everything from giant class A motorhomes to more modest fifth-wheel travel trailers. Organizers hope that the park will help generate new revenue for the city of Galveston, where tourism income has suffered in recent years due to worst economic recession since the Great Depression. Lou Muller, the executive director of the park board, recently told the Galveston News that the community is ready to embrace RVers. "They buy provisions at local stores and visit attractions while theyre here," Muller told the news provider. "RVing is growing, even in a tough economy, it's still thriving."
