Winter is on its way, and for RV owners it can mean finding new ways to maintain their rig and keep it in top shape.
For some, it is simply easier to make like the birds and migrate South, however, for more stationary RV owners, the idea of relocating is not an option. So how do fulltimers survive the winter months in an RV and manage to keep it in good structural form despite all the wind and snow?
When the cold comes, the issue of staying warm in a scarcely insulated shelter becomes a pressing topic. While normally it is important to keep weight down in an RV, during winter months it would be extremely beneficial to purchase a heavier door that will securely keep out drafts caused by freezing winds. Similarly, storm-proofing the windows by either replacing them with newer energy-efficient models or securely sealing them with plastic sheeting can keep out the cold.
Owners of Class C RVs should plan to shovel snow away from the sides of the structure on a regular basis to prevent freezing and damage to the design. The best way to prepare in snowy climates is with a hefty amount of snow shovels and some strong will.
