There are few more American family vacations than a trek to the Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. This iconic landmark has been a point of interest for travelers for generations, and one of the most popular destinations for families piled into class A motor homes in the country. The massive gorge could become an even bigger hotspot for drivers of used RVs, as a recently announced project could bring a new RV park, housing options and jobs to this national landmark.
The new design and build project, an action made possible by $10 million in stimulus funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, will see the creation of 6 new RV sites and associated infrastructure along the North Rim of the park.
The plan would also create a number of housing opportunities for seasonal employees and their families, following the destruction of 6 external frame cabins near the National Park Service employee trailer court.
Officials expect the construction to get underway in early July, and the travelers will be able to follow the project's progress online at the park's website.
