While high gas prices may be deterring other drivers from taking lengthy road trips, the same cannot be said for recreational vehicle owners. In fact, The News Journal reports that recent surveys have shown RV drivers are likely to increase their travel this coming summer.
The statistics comes from a survey conducted by the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA), which found that only nine percent of those polled said they'd be camping less than previous years. Experts say the findings indicate that there will always be a strong pull for Americans to get away, regardless of the economic conditions, and that RV drivers are just more apt to take a trip that is closer to home.
"They're still going camping, they're just not going as far," industry insider George Kover told the news source. "Instead of going to the Outer Banks, they're going to Killens Pond or Trap Pond."
According to the RVIA, recreational vehicle dealers have also enjoyed a growth in business. In March, dealers reported a 14.6 percent jump in sales compared to the same month in 2010.
