Hitting the open road in a class A motorhome is an excellent way to spend a relaxing vacation exploring the countryside of the U.S. and Canada. Now, drivers passing through the Midwest could have a new destination to shoot for as the city of McLoud, Oklahoma, is in the process of creating a new five-star RV park between the Wes Watkins Reservoir and the Firelake Grand Casino. Dubbed the Firekeepers Resort, the new park is expected to bring luxury accommodations for drivers of all makes and models. The 51-acre resort, which is slated to open in March, hopes to draw RV drivers across the board, from the cross country travelers bedding down for the night to serious drivers hoping to attend local rallies. The $7 million facility, construction of which is expected to begin next month, is expected to feature a spacious landscaped RV park with room for 118 full-sized RVs, 50 buddy sites, a large central lodge and 70 rentable cottages. In addition, the park is set to feature an outdoor pavilion for cookouts, a bath house, laundry area, swimming pool, splash pad and gym for guests lucky enough to reserve a spot. Local officials believe the park will be good for the town. "In a lot of ways this resort will put us on the map, and give McLoud the opportunity to show its small-town hospitality," McLoud city manager Larry Dillon told NewsOK.com. As far as I can see this is a good deal for the city."
