Much like any other sector, the RV industry sufered as a result of the recession. But according to the Redding Record Searchlight, many manufacturers have adapted in the tough economic times, often placing an emphasis on the fuel-efficiency of recreational vehicles, and are starting to climb back.
While there's still an appeal for larger motorhomes, most dealers say they have seen an increase in smaller models as well as travel trailers. The shift hasn't gone unnoticed by industry insiders, including repair specialists.
"There was a time that if we saw one tent trailer a month, that was a lot. Now we have two or three tent trailers coming in to be repaired," Tom Williams, who owns a trailer and RV supply store, told the news source.
Though the industry still has yet to return to the levels it achieved in 2006, it's certainly geting there. According to The Recreational Vehicle Industry Association, year-to-date shipments of RVs are up 5.9 percent compared to the first half of 2010, and the industry moved an estimated 26,700 units in June.
