There may be no better way to tailgate a college football game than from the back of a class A motor home. Fortunately for fans and alumni of the University of Alabama who are hoping to catch some of the Crimson Tide's home games this season, the city of Northport has converted an empty lot to serve as a new RV lot for travelers heading to the southern city on game day weekends. The 3.45-acre site is expected to host around 50 different RVs, campers and travel trailers, city administrator Scott Collins tells the Tuscaloosa News. The community plans to offer the spaces as seasonal rentals in a bid to generate new income for the city, which has seen profits drop in the wake of the recent economic downturn. RVers have had a difficult time finding parking in the area in the past, as temporary street parking for recreational vehicles and motor homes for major events like game days were not allowed within Northport city limits.
