Pedata RV Center Releases 6 Quick Driving Tips to Decrease Gas Costs

Sunday, August 8th, 2010

Pedata RV Center releases 6 quick driving tips to decrease gas costs while pulling travel trailers and/or driving motorhomes or RVS.

6 Quick Driving Tips to Decrease Gas Costs while pulling travel trailers or driving a RV/motorhome:

1.    Avoid quick acceleration. If your RV (or truck/SUV pulling a travel trailer) has cruise control frugal drivers should take advantage of it to decrease the likelihood that there will be unnecessary acceleration on the road.
2.    Avoid speeding. If drivers aren’t willing to drive the speed limit because it’s the law they may not be willing to drive the speed limit to decrease the cost of gas on a trip with a travel trailer, but it is an effective method of decreasing gas costs on a road trip.
3.    Take advantage of overdrive gears when possible.
4.    Keep windows rolled up while driving on the highway. This is a simple matter of wind resistance. And it does make a difference.
5.    Plan in advance (or stay on top of things with your smart phone) to take the quickest route to your destination and avoid traffic where possible.
6.    Turn off your vehicle or RV when it is stopped for over a few minutes. Idling for longer than a few minutes will increase gas costs.

Gerard Pedata of Pedata RV Center said, “We are finding more and more that individuals interested in purchasing travel trailers are doing so in a very finance conscious mindset. They are curious to know the tips of the industry that make RVing even more affordable. They want to know how to get the most out of their RV or travel trailer and one of the most commonly discussed related issues is the cost of gas. These tips may seem simple, but they can make a drastic difference on a road trip with your travel trailer or RV.”

Pedata RV Center sells used RVs, travel trailers, fifth wheels, campers, and motor homes. Their full inventory is accessible online and due to their low overhead costs they are able to offer competitive pricing in their industry. Easy access to industry and recreational vehicle information allows consumers to have access to the specific knowledge they need to ensure their purchase results in long term satisfaction.

Class A RV Travel And What To Know

Friday, June 4th, 2010

“If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.”  This famous quote should be taken to heart often, but especially when you are planning an excursion in your Class A motor home.  Take the time needed to plan ahead, so that you can prevent as many unknown mishaps before they occur.  If you plan ahead and give your family structure, you will be able to have a most pleasurable experience in your Class A during the adventure itself!

Start your planning session by brainstorming about what you would like to do on the trip.  Jot down everyone’s ideas and begin to narrow down to destinations that are Class A RV friendly.  Save the other ideas for another time.  Then, make sure you know the details of your budget.

Does your Class A RV have a GPS System?  Use a real map, too.

Use online tools, such as Rand McNally or Triple A, to formulate an accurate path with mileage and distance.  This will give you something to rely on when there is no service for your Class A RV’s GPS system.  Maps are also beneficial for Class A boondocking.

Use checklists for both meal planning and packing your Class A unit

By planning meals ahead and packing sparingly, you will be ultimately saving yourself and your family money and clutter.  Take a look online or at the bookstore to get recipes for RV specific meals.   Plan your menus and enjoy the cooking experience.

You won’t want to over pack clothing when traveling by Class A RV.  Think basics and keep your motor home uncluttered with excess items.  Think about the weather of the final destination and towns along the road.  Pack a hat and sunscreen, or a sweatshirt and bug spray.

Maintain checklists and keep them handy for future road trips.  Adjust the lists as you see what meals and items of clothing work and what doesn’t work.

Take medications and a plan for medical needs

Look at the route you will be taking and see where your pharmacy branches are located.  Fill your necessary prescriptions ahead of time, and pack a medical emergency kit with details.  Keep this on hand.

Spend quality time planning your motorhome adventure.  Make lists, and check them twice.  Then hit the road and enjoy!

Do You Want A Fifth Wheel RV? It May Be The Ideal Unit For You.

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

Did you know that fifth wheel trailers are luxurious RVs that are pulled behind a truck or SUV with a special hitch?  Do you think that you are a family that would enjoy living the fifth wheel RV lifestyle?

Hitch description

A gooseneck hitch is the type of hitch used for fifth wheel trailers.  It is a large hitch built into the bed of the truck made to tow heavy loads.  There is no tailgate in the truck for stability.  This hitch allows the fifth wheel to maneuver more smoothly during turns and while on the road.

Fifth wheel RV trailer description

The fifth wheel trailer is one of the most luxurious and priciest RVs on the market today, offering bi-level living spaces and several slide-outs.  Up to eight people can sleep comfortably in this unit.  One drawback is that due to its weight, the fifth wheel recreational vehicle often costs more in gas mileage than other RV units.

You will be impressed with the size of the fifth wheel in all of its living areas.  This includes the kitchen and sleeping spaces.  Full timers love this type of unit.

One benefit to having a fifth wheel is that you can park it at the RV campground and take your other auto out and about.

Types of towing vehicles

Typical towing vehicles are large trucks or SUVs, as long as it has the appropriate hitch and the ability to tow heavy duty.  Check your vehicle’s rear suspension capabilities, and make sure the 5th wheel weight is balanced before driving.

Which motor home is ideal for you and your RVing needs?

Assess what your travelling needs will be.  If it is just two of you, you may decide that such grand space is not necessary and you can save money with a new or used smaller unit.  Test drive and explore several other options.

Look at toy haulers, if that is the type of trailer you need, rather than one that has luxury living space.  The toy haulers carry toys, such as motorcycles or snow mobiles, to help you enjoy your RV time once at your destination.  Take time to look at new and used motor homes and select the best one for you!

Pedata RV Center Cites Consumer Confidence Increase as Used Travel Trailers Sales Increase

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

Pedata RV Center cites increased consumer confidence levels in May. The Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index increased for the third month in a row in May 2010. As consumer confidence continues to increase Pedata RV Center sees increase in the interest and purchase of used travel trailers.

Gerard Pedata of Pedata RV Center said, “There’s always a renewed interest in traditional used travel trailers in the months preceding summer. Families are looking for convenient travel means for planned vacations. The stay-cation was a popular option last year. This year increased consumer confidence is resulting in a return to travel.”

The Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index is based on a representative sample of the common US household (representative sample consists of 5,000 US households). Recent sharp increases in the consumer confidence levels have left the Index standing at 63.3. This is up from April’s 57.7. The Present Situation Index increased from 28.2 to 30.2. The Expectations Index increased from 77.4 to 85.3.

Pedata RV Center Urges Consumers to Consider Purchasing Used in the Midst of Recovery

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

Pedata RV Center urges consumers to consider purchasing used motorhomes in the midst of the recovery. RV travel is a positive move economically for most; and for most purchasing used motorhomes is an additional financial advantage worth considering. More consumers are looking for used motor homes as they continue in a semi-cautious purchasing vein and the summer/vacation season heats up.

Pedata RV Center’s Gerard Pedata said, “Summer always sees an increase in RV buying interest. It’s only logical; families are looking for a vacation method that will incorporate the entire family in the most economical way possible.”

Benefits of RV travel that increase purchasing popularity in the summer months include:

1.    Economical: RV travel is far more economical than other modes of travel popularly used for vacationing.
2.    Amenities: RVs of today provide all inclusive comfort and luxury. Depending upon the model chosen travelers can enjoy almost any luxury and/or amenity that is available.
3.    Family friendly: RVs are more family friendly than any lodging available on the road. RVers are able to ensure that their family’s needs are met on the road.
4.    Versatility: RVing offers unique travel planning possibilities as well as unique possibilities to travel without an itinerary.

The benefits of RVing have made it a popular choice for many for years, but the recent economical strain has actually increased the interest in RVs as a mode of travel; particularly vacation travel. Consumers looking to cut back on extra expenditures without cutting out all their entertainment are making a used motor home one of their investments.

Pedata RV Center offers an extensive inventory of used motor homes. All have a very detailed listing of features and specifications. And all available inventory is included in the online listings. Pedata RV Center offers low prices on high quality recreational vehicles.

Pedata RV Center Defines Major Categories in the Industry, Class A, Class B and Class C Motorhome

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Pedata RV Center defines the major categories into which all recreational vehicles fall: Class A, Class B, and Class C motorhome. Current definitions as presented by the industry standard RVIA (Recreational Vehicle Industry Association) leave many RVers and potential RVers wondering what characteristics define a RV and place it into one category over another.

Active RV and RV travel forum participants often find themselves discussing the differences between a Class A, a Class B and a Class C motorhome with newbies and veteran RVers alike. Veterans find themselves confused when they are attempting to upgrade/downsize to 2nd or 3rd vehicles. Newbies find themselves unable to define what they are looking for precisely enough to get a proper response at a dealership or from owners with used motorhomes for sale.

Pedata RV Center recognizes that loose definitions are versatile, but unhelpful when attempting to use them as a reference point. Thus the following are general definitions for the various classes of motor homes:

1.    The Class A motorhome. Class A’s are built on one of the following: a commercial bus chassis, a specially designed motor vehicle chassis, or a commercial truck chassis.
2.    The Class B motorhome. Class B’s are built using a conventional van. Construction depends upon either the addition of a raised roof or having the back replaced by a low-profile body (most call it coach built).
3.    The Class C motorhome. Class C’s are built on a truck chassis with an attached cab (usually van based). Class C’s are often based on the popular Ford E450 engine, cabs, and chassis (Dodge and Chevy are also popular choices). The larger version is often referred to as a toy hauler and may be based on a larger truck such as the F650. The Class C is easily recognized by the cab over style which often contains a bed or entertainment section.

Arguing over the title may seem silly, but it is a necessity for many to be able to identify either the motorhome that they own or the motorhome that they would like to own. Nothing is more helpful than being able to walk onto a dealer’s lot knowing what to ask for.

Pedata RV Center offers an extensive inventory of used motorhomes and/or RVs. All have a very detailed listing of features and specifications available for perusal by the public online. And all available inventory is included in the online listings. Pedata RV Center offers low prices on high quality recreational vehicles.

Class C – Ideal for Boondocking with Your Children

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Do your children spend all of their free or extra-curricular time on the internet, playing video games, or watching television?  If this is you, get ready to take a vacation back to nature with your entire family in your Class C RV.

Packing Tips for your Class C Nature weekend

When preparing to pack your Class C for your family weekend, take the essentials and leave the rest at home.  Make sure you check the weather at the spot you are going to visit, so that you pack appropriately.  Take hiking boots, socks, a few changes of clothing, a hat, and a sweatshirt.  Store bug spray, sunscreen, and a first aid kit in your Class C recreational vehicle.

Take the following

Some extra items that you won’t want to forget to pack in your Class C RV are binoculars, a magnifying glass, and any identifying adventure books.  These books can be fun in identifying birds, nature, and wildlife.  Take your camera and a blank scrapbook to document the trip.  If you plan on hiking, make sure you have water bottles (reusable) and easy to carry snack foods on board your Class C before leaving.

Leave this at home

This Class C RV adventure should be about family time, so say no to all electronics.  No iPods, video games, or other technological items should be allowed on board.  You, as the adult, must have a cell phone for emergencies, but other than that, take the time to enjoy one another’s laughter and company.

What if it rains?

It may rain or you may want a day inside your motorhome.  So, just in case, make sure you bring along some good books, a deck of cards, or even board games.  Playing games is fun, as is reading books out loud.  You will have fun with the whole family!  Make sure you pack age-appropriate games for all of the children in the Class C excursion.

Don’t stress about the food

Hamburgers and hotdogs, along with fresh fruits and veggies, are always good for camping.  They can be grilled over an open flame or campfire, even the veggies can be skewered, and homemade S’mores are never a letdown.

You and your family will enjoy every moment of your technology free weekend.

Travel Trailer – Visit Your National Park

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

Plan a travel trailer trip to one of America’s natural National Parks.  There are plenty of options of parks for you to choose from.  All will offer different activities, sites, and amenities to match your travel trailer and fifth wheel needs.  So whether you choose to visit the Grand Canyon with your travel trailer or another park, you will have a well-worth it excursion.

What should you look for in selecting a National Park as a travel trailer destination?

Before selecting the RV park that you want to take your travel trailer to, assess the distance that you want to cross.  Begin with your point of origin and make sure your budget can cover the costs to get you and your travel trailer to and from your destination.  There are options for you to choose from throughout the United States.  You should even check to see if there are discounts available for visiting more than one park within certain distances from one another.

Spend some time researching the numerous National Parks that exist in your travel trailer trip range.  There is the infamous Grand Canyon or Rocky Mountain Nation Park.  You may wish to take your travel trailer beachside to Canaveral National Seashore or Biscayne National Park, or you may select a park that has historic relevance, such as the Independence National Historic Park.

What National Parks are located nearby?

There are several ways to discover what parks are located near your point of origin.  The best website and resource is the U.S. National Park Service.  You can find a park by entering your state or search parks by attractions.  Other tools or resources to find parks are online, book stores, or local library.  If you are a member of an RV club with your travel trailer or a member of the American Automobile Association, check there, too.

Try camping in the park in your travel trailer

Many parks offer tent and RV camping areas.  Some have hook up options, while others do not.  Take a look online to make sure the campground or park that you select has camping options to suit your travel needs.  You may have to reserve a spot, so it is wise to spend time online or call the park service directly for more information.

Begin planning your RV trip ASAP

When planning a national park vacation, spend ample time preparing for your trip.  Learn the history of the park, its amenities, and the anticipated travel time.  By doing this, you will have time to enjoy the entire RVing experience!
